2. LAMP–iCONGO Karmaveer Chakra for Patriotic Music (Popular Vote) 2012 Award for the song “Ae Watan” : RANVEER SAINI (12 years old autistic child), Gurgaon

Ranveer Singh Saini born on 24 November 2000 is a child of extra ordinary talent, abilities, hard work and a source of inspiration for the world. Diagnosed with Autism, a Pervasive Development Disorder (PDD) at a early age of 2yrs, this child has shown and proved to the world that a special needs child can at times outdo and overpower the capabilities of any child of his age. Devoid of the natural gifts of God like constructive speech, emotion, social behaviour, ability to friendship, etc, Ranveer undergoes dozens of therapies every week in speech stimulation, sensory integration, occupational therapy, hyper-activity control, behaviour therapy and numerous such interventions to lead a near normal life. However, his performance in various fields outshines his peer group by his sheer determination, hardwork, dedication and passion. His achievements, in a nutshell are listed below, which, by any standards, would inspire even normal children of his age.

  1. Music. Trained at the LORRAINE MUSIC ACADEMY, this child has performed on the piano in school concerts, music concerts at the Epicenter, Annual Functions, and Independence Day celebrations amongst thousands of people. He is also the recipient of certificate from the Trinity College on a final examination and continues to rise above the ab-initio level.
  2. Singing. He is undergoing training by the Indian Idol master Sachin Gakkar and has done numerous solo and group performances in concerts before hundreds of people including one at India Islamic Center before Smt. Sheela Dixit, the Chief Minister of Delhi and also at the British Council.
  3. Golf. This game of precision and accuracy which is difficult to learn and play by normal children has been mastered by him under his trainer Mr. Anitya Chand, the national coach. Ranveer was selected for representing his country in the Special Olympics Golf held at Macau this year and in Athens in 2010.

Other than these Ranveer manages to ride a horse and is in the school cavalry platoon; He is a 90% student in academics, a computer wizkid, can cook excellent Indian food, a keen swimmer and cycling expert.

All this for a special needs child is difficult to achieve due to various mental and physical handicaps associated with Autism. But, Ranveer Singh Saini has done it and shall continue to shine.

See Line Woman / Sea Lion Woman is a traditional American Folk Song originally used as a children's playground song. The exact origins of the song are unknown but it is believed to have originated in the southern United States. It was first recorded by folklore researcher Herbert Halpert on May 13, 1939. Halpert was compiling a series of field recordings for the Library of Congress in Byhalia, when he ran across Walte Shipp, a minister, and his wife Mary, a choir director of a local church. Halpert recorded Shipp's daughters, Katharine and Christeen, singing a sparse version of "Sea Lion Woman" that defined the basic rhymes and rhythm of the song. Notable covers include a version by Nina Simone (1964) under the name See-Line Woman. “I chose this song because NINA SIMONE has been a big influence is my life and has shaped my style in a definite way. I was first introduced to her work ten years ago which marked a transition in my musical journey helping me discover my sound. Since See Line Woman qualified the folk category I took the opportunity to use this video”, says Joanne.

‘Natural Woman’ by Aretha franklin, is a song very close to Swati’s heart for two reasons – one, for its rich harmonic and melodic content, and secondly, for its intense and expressive lyrics. She strongly believes that music is a form of self-expression and Pop music especially, helps her connect with and relate to the thoughts and emotions present within all of us. A Song like Natural Woman brings out one of the most overwhelming emotions inherent in life, the feeling of being in love. It was therefore challenging for Swati, to render her own, unique version of the song, hence the choice.

6. LAMP–iCONGO Karmaveer Chakra for Pop / Rock / Bollywood (Popular Vote) 2012 Award for the song “Starships” : ANANYA PANWAR (14 years old), New Delhi

“Hi there! I am Ananya Panwar, a 14 year old studying in The Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute. I am a single child of a single parent. My mother plays the part of both my father and mother and she is the one who gave me the push towards music when I was a little kid. Music is my passion. Some would call it a hobby but that term would be incorrect. Some words that would describe me would be a honor roll student, a youtuber, a gamer, a pet lover, a music lover. My life revolves around music. During some of the happiest and saddest moments of my life, I have been singing or humming along to a song that portrays my feelings. Music is what makes me reach the skies while keeping my feet on the ground. It has always been a part of me. It is my dream to spread music. The best feeling in the world is when you make someone smile through music. I believe that music can incite thoughts and feelings as it is a language of souls. People would call me “Some girl with her guitar” but there’s more to me than I could ever tell you in a short paragraph.”

“The song that was my contest entry was “Starships” by Nicki Minaj. I sung that song as right now everyone seems to be stressed out and frustrated with life. The song is about having fun, going out and not regretting any decision that you make. I think the song is just talking about how people should let go off their problems and enjoy each moment of their lives and that is what we should all learn to do!”

"He's got the Whole World in His Hands" is a traditional American spiritual. When he was deployed, he had left the lyrics to the song in his locker. Someone found the song and managed to have it put on the radio while he was at war. Since that day, it has been sung by a number of individuals as diverse as Mahalia Jackson and Perry Como. And it’s been sung for decades by numberless children in Sunday Schools and church camps. “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands” is based on th text found in the Bible in Isaiah 40:1-31. The 12th verse says: “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?” The answer is nobody. Nobody is as all powerful as God is.

“Shackles (Praise you)” is the debut single by singer-songwriter duo Mary Mary. It was first released in 2000 and has since been dubbed the signature Mary Mary song as it ultimately raised the profile of the duo in the gospel music industry. Stan North of GospelFlava.com deemed it as one of the pioneer songs of Urban Gospel music. The song was originally recorded and released in December 1999 upon Mary Mary's signing with Columbia Records and was re-released one month later as a promotional single for their upcoming album, Thankful. They both feature the same track listing but different album covers, the seco "Shackles (Praise You)" became a crossover hit, being popular with gospel, R&B, and pop audiences. It was a Top 10 R&B and Top 40 pop hit, and peaked at #28 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It became the first gospel song in five years to crack the R&B top ten and gained wide exposure on the MTV video cable channel. In addition, Shackles was one of the few gospel songs to receive significant airplay on many CCM stations and appeared on many compilation CDs (include WOW Hits).

“I chose Shackles because it is one of my happy break free songs. Whenever I feel weighed down and bound something as simple as this tune changes the way I feel. There is power in praise and the results can be felt instantly”, says Joanne.
