Here at Lorraine Music Academy, we assess all our students through periodic Internal Music Exams. In addition we have sent thousands of students for International Music Exams. World renowned & globally accredited organizations conduct these exams at our Music Learning Centres. Organizations like Trinity College London, U.K., Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (A.B.R.S.M.), U.K., RockSchool, U.K., London College of Music, U.K.

A.B.R.S.M. : Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, U.K.

ABRSM was founded in 1889. In fact, it is the leading authority on musical assessment. ABRSM is the exam board of the Royal Schools of Music. They deliver over 650,000 music exams and assessments every year in 93 nations. Supporting high-quality music-making, learning and progress throughout the world, and to producing the best possible resources for music is what ABRSM is committed to do. Moreover ABRSM sets standards in providing the highest quality music exams, services and resources.

Thus ABRSM exams and assessments aim to inspire students of all levels and ages. They give them a series of realistic goals and tangible rewards for their success.

Graded Music Exams & Performance Certificates are available for:

  • PIANO

    Piano music exams consist of three pieces. The applicant needs to choose these three pieces from a list in the current syllabus. This correct list of pieces in the current syllabus will include scales and arpeggios, sight-reading and aural tests. Total marks in all individual Practical exams are 150. Thus marks needed to Pass is 100, 120 marks to pass with Merit and 130 marks to pass with Distinction. There are eight grades of assessment (Grades 1 to 8).

  • MUSIC THEORY

    As instrumental skills progress, growth in music theory and musicianship becomes more and more important too. It is certainly important in helping students to perform with sensitivity, understanding and confidence. ABRSM’s Music Theory exams aim to give students a thorough understanding of the building blocks of music. Firstly one starts with the basics of rhythm and notes. After that going on to cover harmony and counterpoint, composition, and a broad knowledge of western music. Further, it includes composers and their works, structure, style and period.
    Out of a total of 100 marks is each Music Theory paper. Thus marks needed for a Pass is 66, 80 marks for a Merit and 90 marks for a Distinction. There are eight grades of assessment (Grades 1 to 8).

  • VIOLIN

    Violin music exams consist of three pieces.  The applicant needs to choose these three pieces from a list in the current syllabus. This
    correct list of pieces in the current syllabus will include scales and arpeggios, sight-reading and aural tests. Total marks in all individual Practical exams are 150. Thus marks needed to Pass is 100, 120 marks to pass with Merit and 130 marks to pass with Distinction. There are eight grades of assessment (Grades 1 to 8).

  • GUITAR

    Guitar music exams consist of three pieces. The applicant needs to choose these three pieces from a list in the current syllabus.   • SINGING

    Singing exams consist of three accompanied songs at Grades 1-5 and four accompanied songs at Grades 6-8. The applicant needs to choose these songs from the correct lists in the current syllabus. The Singing exam also consists of an unaccompanied traditional song, sight-singing and aural tests. Total marks in all individual Practical music exams are 150. Thus marks needed to Pass is 100, 120 marks to pass with Merit and 130 marks to pass with Distinction. There are eight grades of assessment (Grades 1 to 8).

  • CHORAL SINGING

    The design of Choral Singing syllabus is meant for a wide range of choirs. Music Exams are available at three levels – Initial, Intermediate and Advanced – and choirs can choose their own repertoire. At each level choirs perform vocal exercises followed by three contrasted choral works. The Examiners for this syllabus have extensive choral experience. They offer expert assessment and helpful feedback for both choir director and singers.

London College of Music, University of West London, U.K.

London College of Music (LCM), at the University of West London, is the largest specialist music and performing arts institution. It is situated in the UK. They offer an exciting range of advanced courses, respected worldwide and offered with creativity and passion.

London College of Music Examinations is an international examinations board offering graded and diploma qualifications in music, drama and communication. These Music Exams are held across a large network of exam centers worldwide. They are unique in the graded examinations world in being awarded by a university.

Indeed, London College of Music Examinations are globally recognized and fully accredited by Ofqual (Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation). They are also renowned & known by other education authorities in many nations around the world. Further, it also offers UCAS points towards university entry at Grades 6-8. Students attaining LCM Advanced Level music qualifications (grades 6, 7 and 8), in both practical and theory subjects, receive UCAS tariff points as an award. For Higher Education music courses, practical music grades have always been an important factor in the application process. MUSIC

London College of Music (LCM) offers grade music exams for a wide range of instruments. They also offer grade exams for singing, from Early Learning Levels to Grade 8. Applicants perform three (or sometimes four) pieces, and technical work including scales and arpeggios, exercises or orchestral extracts. They also choose two supporting tests from a selection including sight reading, aural, musical knowledge and improvising.

Along with their overall grade, they are marked on specific musical components. Thus it gives feedback in detail to help with their ongoing learning. The assessments of the pieces are made on the basis of three distinct components:

  • Notational Accuracy and Fluency: the observation and realization of the notes and any other details in the musical score
  • Technical Facility: the ability to control the instrument effectively with things such as tone, breath control and articulation
  • Communication and Interpretation: interpretation of music and the way it conveys a sense of contextual understanding and audience engagement

Rockschool is the leading accredited provider of rock & pop music exams worldwide. They offer Graded Music Exams in the principal rock instruments and Diplomas in Teaching and Performance.

Futhermore, Rockschool produces and examines unique music qualifications. Lorraine Music Academy teaches and prepares students for them. Indeed, Rockschool music qualifications are practical, flexible and fun. Musicians of all ages and abilities can take these music exams.

The qualifications regulators of England, (Ofqual) Wales, (DfES) and Northern Ireland (CCEA) accredit Rockschool Graded Music Exams.   • BAND EXAMS

    Rockschool’s Band Music Exams are perfect for people who are in a band, learning together. The exams are taken with all instruments playing the parts from the grade books together, as a group. The ability to play realistic parts while interacting with other musicians is invaluable training in itself. It is also a feature that isn’t available in any other syllabus.

    • Band exams are in Guitar, Bass, Drums and Band Based Keyboards at Grades 3, 5 and 8
    • Bands can be three piece (Guitar, Bass and Drums) or four piece (Guitar, Bass, Drums and Band Based Keyboards)
    • Band exams are Performance Certificates, so consist of 5 performance pieces and no other tests or exercises

Trinity College London, U.K.

Trinity College London is a global exam board that has been providing assessments since 1877. It has a rich heritage of academic rigour and a positive, supportive approach to assessment. Trinity College London provides recognized and respected qualifications in a unique spectrum of communicative skills. These range from music, drama and arts activities to English language, at all levels. Each year over 600,000 candidates in over 60 countries take a Trinity assessment.

Trinity music exams are globally recognized and indeed fully accredited by Ofqual (Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation). They are also recognized by other education authorities in many nations around the world.

MUSIC

Trinity offers matchless choices of qualifications for students of drama and speech subjects, at all levels of experience and ability. The syllabuses provide a structured framework designed to encourage the progressive development of integrated performance and communication skills over time. Individuals, pairs of groups can take these music exams. Study strands include Speech and Drama, Individual Acting Skills, Group Performance, Communication Skills, Musical Theatre and also Performance Arts.
