Drums Classes in GurgaonAt Lorraine Music Academy, we believe that if our students can use their hands, then they can play an instrument (if they desire to). Through our education programs and courses we bring to our students musical experiences and musical memories that will last for a life time. Our students get excellent training and develop great confidence by being exposed to wide range of musical and creative opportunities through our training programs, workshops, recitals, concerts and public performances. Through music education we wish to provide children with social, educational and skill development opportunities. We also aim to promote in them a sense of self-esteem, accomplishment and pride. We maintain a special learning environment designed to provide a rich and rewarding musical experience for each student.

We have various programs for a student to learn the DRUMS ranging from the Beginners level to Grade-8 level. We have a faculty of internationally qualified musicians under the talented leadership of Lorraine Fiona Aloysius, our Creative Director & Principal. Lorraine also oversees a regular visiting faculty that comes in from across the globe including some of the top global Colleges of Music & Drama, to teach our students during various periods of the year.

As our student’s instrumental skills progress, development in music theory and musicianship becomes increasingly important in helping him/her to perform with sensitivity, understanding and confidence. Lorraine Music Academy aims to give all our students a thorough understanding of the building blocks of music, starting with the basics of rhythm and notes, and going on to cover harmony and counterpoint, composition, and a broad knowledge of western music, including composers and their works, structure, style and period. They are also equipped to prepare for scales and arpeggios, sight-reading and aural tests.

All students of Lorraine Music Academy get assessed through our periodic Internal Examinations. We also prepare our students for International Examinations conducted at our Music Centres by world renowned & globally accredited organisations such as Trinity College London, U.K., U.K., RockSchool, U.K., etc.

Graded Music Exams are great for developing a full range of skills and techniques, learning new styles of music and also nurturing your performance skills. Grade Exams and Performance Certificates are available from Entry Level (Debut) up to Grade 8.

It is essential for a student to possess a ELECTRONIC DRUMS SET of their own at home which would be used to practice on. Regular practise at home after each learning session at the Lorraine Music Academy Learning Centre is imperative in order for the student to get ready for the next learning session.

The drum is a member of the percussion group of musical instruments. Drums are the world’s oldest musical instruments. The basic design of the drum has virtually remained unchanged for thousands of years. Drums consist of at least one membrane, called a drumhead or skin drum, which is stretched over a shell and struck with a drum stick or directly with the player’s hand in order to produce sound. There is a resonance head on the underside of the drum, tuned to a slightly lower pitch than the top drumhead.

Drums may be played by an individual. A player may use a single drum or a set of two or more drums. Some drums like the djembe are always played using a single drum. Other drums like the bongo drums and timpani are usually played in a set of two drums or more, all played by one player. A number of different drums put together with cymbals form the basic modern drum kit.

Drum Kit Set

A drum kit set or a trap set is a collection of drums and additional percussion instruments set up to be played by a single player. The traditional drum kit consists of a mix of drums and idiophones / cymbals. More recently kits have included electronic instruments. Both hybrid and entirely electronic kits are now in common use.

A standard modern kit contains:

  • A snare drum, mounted on a snare, placed between the player’s knees and played with drum sticks, rutes or brushes.
  • A bass drum, played by a pedal, operated by the right/left foot.
  • A hi-hat stand and cymbals, operated by the left/right foot.
  • One or more top-tom drums, played with sticks.
  • One or more cymbals, played with the sticks.

The drum kit is usually played seated on a drum stool or throne.

Many drummers extend their kits from this basic pattern, adding more drums, more cymbals, and many other instruments including pitched percussion.
