HANNAH GILL
Pianist, Organist, Choir Conductor, Music Director from London, U.K.
Hannah graduated with First Class honours in classical piano performance from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Born in Wales, Hannah was awarded a scholarship to study at the Junior Department of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, where she gained her piano diploma with distinction (DipABRSM) after just five years of study.
Since making her concerto debut at the age of 16 with the Cardiff Chamber Orchestra, Hannah has performed at venues such as the Barbican Centre, LSO St. Luke’s, King’s Place and Wales Millennium Centre. In 2007 she was a concerto finalist in the Texaco Young Musician of Wales and performed on ITV in a documentary about the competition.
In 2010 Hannah performed at the BBC Proms in a composer portrait of Tansy Davies, broadcast on BBC Radio 3. While teaching music in India in 2009 on behalf of the WAM Foundation, she gave a number of concerts, including recitals at the Delhi Society of Music and the Polish Embassy.
Hannah holds the diploma of Associate of the Royal College of Organists (ARCO). She is Organist at St Nicholas in Harpenden, and was previously Organist and Director of Music at St Peter’s and St Saviour’s in Belsize Park, London.
From 2015-16 Hannah was the Organ Scholar at the Southbank Centre, where she enjoyed the opportunity to demonstrate the Royal Festival Hall’s newly-restored Harrison & Harrison organ to hundreds of visitors, including audiences of school children. Hannah studied the organ at RCO Academy with Anne Marsden Thomas and Simon Williams. She has also been awarded scholarships to study the organ at courses at both Oxford and Cambridge University, and is a committee member of the newly formed Society of Women Organists.
Hannah is Music Director of the Fortune Green Choir in North London and has successfully completed intermediate training in choral conducting with the Association of British Choral Directors. In 2016 Hannah was awarded the inaugural Oxford University Press Andrew Potter Bursary to attend the ABCD Annual Convention at Winchester University, where she participated in choral conducting courses with Jo McNally, Peter Broadbent, Amy Bebbington and Mark Griffiths.
From 2013-18 Hannah was Music Director of Côr Llunsain (now known as Côr Dinas), a London-based Welsh female-voice choir who were prize-winners at the 2016 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. In 2015 she conducted the choir in the national anthems at Twickenham Stadium, in front of an audience of more than 80,000 fans as part of the Rugby World Cup Wales v England game. Hannah’s arrangements of Welsh music for the choir are published by Curiad, and she has worked with several other London-based choirs, including as Music Director of the Belsize Community Choir and Principal Accompanist of the East London Chorus.
In 2019 Hannah was appointed to the panel of ABRSM Grade Examiners. In addition to her work as a pianist, examiner, organist and choral conductor, Hannah maintains a busy private piano teaching practice alongside regular piano teaching at Dame Alice Owen’s School. She has previously taught at Thomas’s Battersea and Enfield Grammar School.
As well as her musical activities Hannah is a keen road cyclist and has completed several sportive events including London to Brighton twice, Tour of Cambridgeshire, Prudential Ride London and Velothon Wales. She has also finished several half marathons as a runner.
