Ustad Rashid Khan is a Banjo / Bul-Bul Tarang Maestro based in Mumbai, India with an illustrious career spanning over 50 years. His initial training under his brother, Zameer Khan was further honed by the sitar maestro late Ustad Rais Khan.
Ustad Rashid Khan’s versatality with Bul-Bul Tarang has made him perform with music legends of generes as varied as Qawwali to Ghazals from Bollywood to Indipop. As a soloist, he has performed with the A-listers ranging from Naushad Ali, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Kalyanji-Anandji and R.D. Burman to Vishal-Shekhar, Pritam, Shankar-Ahsan-Loy and Mithun (Bollywood), from Ghulam Ali, Jagjit Singh, Pankaj Udhas to Hariharan and Bhupinder-Mitali Singh (Ghazals), from Jani Babu, Aziz Nazan, Sabri Brothers and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan to Munawwar Masoon, Altaf Raja and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan (Qawwali), from Gurdas Mann, Wadali Brothers, Daler Mehdi, and Master Salim to Sardool Sikandar and Sunita Rao (IndiPop).
His illustrious Bollywood career which started with him playing the introduction interlude in the iconic Qawwali Parda Hai Parda from Amar, Akbar, Anthony includes the likes of ‘Dil Diya Hai, Jaan bhi Denge (Karma)’, ‘Ek Do Teen (Tezab)’, ‘Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast-Mast (Mohra)’, ‘Dulhe ka Sehra Suhana Lagta Hai (Dhadkan)’, ‘Tum Se Mil Ke Dil Hai Jo Haal Kya Karein (Main Hoon Na)’, ‘Fevicol Se (Dabangg-2)’.
He has also composed music for various artists with the ‘Tum Toh Thaeray Pardesi (Altaf Raja)’ as the big highlight of his career as a music composer.
Ustad Rashid Khan’s career highlights include films like Subhash Ghai’s Karma where he played banjo in the background while it Jackie Shroff portrayed as the musician on-screen and Banjo where, again, it was him behind the screens while Riteish Deshmukh enacted as the musician on-screen.
